HCA Graduate Publishes Regulatory Manual

Betty MacLaughlin Frandsen, a 1999 BSHCA graduate – now in the MHA program - has authored a document titled F-Tag Crosswalk to Culture Change. This manual examines more than 180 federal regulations for nursing homes, linking each of them with one of five primary Culture Change Principles (Choice, Community, Empowerment, Relationships, Respect) and with selected Pioneer Network Culture Change Values. The goal of the F-Tag Series is to translate regulatory language into action steps staff can take to transform their nursing homes from institutions to communities where people want to live and work. As regulations are amended by CMS, Ms. Frandsen revises the Crosswalk Series to keep it current. Additionally, Ms. MacLaughlin Frandsen is the primary writer and editor for www.skills4care.org, an on-line classroom where nursing home administrators can obtain their continuing education credits.

Ms. MacLaughlin Frandsen is currently the Administrator of Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Binghamton NY, a 356 bed skilled nursing facility. She has served in several roles for the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration/LTC, and began her career as a nursing home nurses aide. She will speak on June 27th 2007 at the Annual NADONA Convention held at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas on the topic "A View from the Other Side: What the Administrator Needs to Know from a Director of Nursing."
